I thought that posting a six-word story would be a fun thing to do, so here you go. Well, it was in my opinion brutally simple and straightforward, but it was worth a shot. Writing is something we have been doing ever since our childhoods. All we had to do was pick up a pen or pencil and scribble away. Back in our younger days, writing seemed fun, even transcendent. Now, many of us find it a boring to do, even worse so when we don’t have the option to type. Technology has rewired our minds to prefer things that are more efficient, simple and elegant. We hate apps that have an obnoxious design. Meanwhile, tech companies are trying to make their devices and appliances thinner and lighter. Many of us fail to see the value of writing and dismiss it as a mere hobby or an ancient relic of the past. At most, we only write down what we need to get at the supermarket. What’s even funnier is that our vocabulary has gradually degraded overtime. In fact, I encounter many people who know no substitute for the word “happy” when chatting on WhatsApp. So why should we write then, given that technological advances have basically eroded the need for writing? #1: Writing Helps You To Express Your Feelings
Writing is a great way to release stress – a feeling we all know too well. We have become increasingly absorbed with our jobs and commitments, leaving us with little time for reflection. Many of us have become mindless robots, following a set routine – wake up, work, sleep, repeat. To many, the word “tomorrow” is no different to the word “today”. It’s all the same to them. Writing gives you a sense of time, a sense of what you have done in the present day and what you look forward for the next. This helps to break the monotony between days and allows us to better understand our deepest emotions. Often, we ignore these emotions, hiding them. And when they finally explode, our lives take a big hit. In summary, writing is a great way to understand your thoughts, thoughts that disappear and appear throughout the day. By penning them down on paper, you will be able to capture and study them.
#2: It Lets Your Creativity Run Wild
Much like drawing or painting, writing is a way to express your innate creativity. You can write anything you want. Love science fiction? Go ahead and describe the world of your dreams. It could even be something as simple as planning for your team project tomorrow. Point is, your paper (or text file, if you are using a computer or device) is an open canvas awaiting your ideas. Armed with ideas, a vivid imagination and your amazing brain, anything is possible. Meanwhile, writing activates both your left and right brain hemispheres. According to research, students who read and write extensively show greater creative performance than those who do not.
#3: It Improves Your Communication Skills
Those who write regularly are better able to understand their emotions and those of others. In fact, the ability to empathise is an essential skill in the social world. Furthermore, writing enhances your ability to organise and express your thoughts. This also leads to an increased fluency of speech. This will be useful in team projects of any kind, as you will be able to bring your messages across much more easily, thus allowing your subordinates and superiors alike to understand your ideas at a much deeper level.

Due to the fact that comics utilise graphics to convey different stories and messages, it has become a popular and attractive form of entertainment for children, the youth and the elderly. There’s always something for everyone. Love espionage and the world of spies? You have James Bond comics. Love science fiction and Star Wars? Star Wars comics can be bought online and even found in your local library. But is there a good reason as to why you should even read comics in the first place? #1: They Are Exciting
After a long day at work or school, many of us just don’t have the motivation to read anything anymore. Well, don’t worry. Comics are easy to read, as you no longer have to imagine the environment or situation the character(s) is/are in, as in normal books. Comics give you a visual understanding of what is taking place in the story and thus, the number of words you actually have to read decreases. This subsequently requires less brain power. This is the main reason as to why many children prefer comics to normal books during childhoods. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you abandon text-based books totally! Furthermore, the vivid visualisation of story events may evoke a sense of wonderment and excitement, which in comparison to good, old and plain text, may seem 100% less boring.
#2: They Foster Deeper Connections With The Story
As mentioned before, comics specialise in presenting stories and events in a graphical manner. This helps readers to connect much more deeply with the story as compared to a normal text based book. For example, rather than stating “He was frustrated.”, a comic drawing would probably depict the character with a frown. As humans, we tend to relate more to what we see, such as facial expressions and colour. As such, not only are we able to remember the story and the associated comic drawings much effectively, but we may also find ourselves having a higher degree of appreciation for the story. For those who love colour and pictures, comics are for you!
#3: They Help To Foster A Reading Habit
For many teenagers and adults alike, starting a reading habit can be difficult and many of us might end up complaining that we have no motivation to read. We’ve become so used to modern forms of entertainment, like television and video gaming, which not only leaves us with little to read, but also results in us becoming more and more dependent on visual forms of entertainment. We then begin to find reading a chore. So, is this a dead end? No! Comics are a great starting point for those looking to pick up a reading habit. This is because comics are easy to read, as they usually utilise less complicated terms and vocabulary. Likewise, the word count is drastically reduced, as all the focus is placed on the comic drawings. Well you might ask, “Hey! But if I keep reading comics, won’t I be learning nothing?” This is, firstly, a temporary measure (you can continue to read comics if you want). Secondly, the main reason as to why you should first read comics before moving on to harder text-based books, is that it helps to install the habit of picking up a piece of reading material every day. Later, when you have gotten used to doing this, you may eventually find that picking up an autobiography or even a textbook requires less willpower. This is because you have already trained your mind to do so earlier.
I’m sure many of you have played with LEGO during your childhoods. Personally, I love to build and design with LEGOs, not only because of the endless possibilities that can come from building with LEGOs, but also because it brings up old memories. Now, we see the brand everywhere and it is present in almost every modern household. In fact, it has become an educational tool in many schools and is regarded as one of the most popular brands in the world. But why do you and I love LEGO so much? #1: The Possibilities Are Endless
There is no limit to what you can build with LEGO. The possibilities are endless. Different bricks and parts can be attached together to form different structures, models and figurines. It’s an empty canvas and you have the total freedom to build and design what you like. Love cars? You can build it with LEGO! Love dinosaurs? You can also design a unique one for yourself using LEGO! It’s up to you as to how you will make your ideas come true, as there is no set instruction for how you can utilise LEGO. This is exactly why it is used by architects, artists and even engineers to express and test their ideas.
#2: Playing With LEGO Gives A Great Sense of Joy
As mentioned before, there is no fixed instruction as to how you should use or play with LEGO. In fact, LEGO sets are sold in bags of parts with an instructional manual included. Contrary to other toys, LEGO models do not come pre-made and are required to be built by hand. I loved LEGO mostly because of this reason. I would remember being very excited as I went about, instructional manual in hand, building my LEGO models. As I neared completion of the model, I would feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, while at the same time full of anticipation. And when it was finally done, I felt like I had just finished the greatest artwork of the century. I have no idea how to express this feeling in words. You have to try it for yourself, then you’ll get what I am talking about.
#3: It Tests Your Thinking Skills
The infinite nature of LEGO promotes free thinking and creativity, especially in children. LEGO is not limited to mere model vehicles, trains, architecture or art. In fact, LEGO has become an integral part of robotics and programming! Some have also utilised LEGO for Physics experiments as well! As long as your child is able to imagine it, he/she can build it! This lays down the foundation for future career paths, such as that of engineering and entrepreneurship. Of course, not all is lost for us adults. Sometimes, as we become too accustomed to following returns as we go about our hectic lifestyles, we start to lose the ability to think for ourselves. LEGO forces us to think outside the box and explore how different parts can be interconnected to function as a whole.
The word “play” constantly eludes us, especially when we grow older. We lose the curiosity to learn and innovate, and naturally we become machines, programmed to do mere tasks. LEGO helps to merge both play and thinking into one, thus promoting cognitive development and also improving your imaginative and creative-thinking capabilities. #1: Fast Food Is A Major Cause Of Heart-Disease
Heart attacks happen when your heart tissues have their supply of oxygen and glucose cut off. This happens when coronary arteries in your heart become blocked as fatty deposits become stuck on its inner walls. For those interested to learn more, this process is called atherosclerosis, which is responsible for heart attacks. Major causes of atherosclerosis include high cholesterol and sodium intake, lack of exercise, smoking and high blood pressure. So what is the link between heart diseases and fast food then? The answer lies in the fact that fast food products contain high amounts of harmful cholesterol and fat. The risk of heart attack is higher for those who lack exercise and consume fast-food at the same time. In fact, a study conducted by researchers from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health showed that consuming fast-food once a week increases the risk of death from coronary heart disease by 20%.
#2: Fast Food Is One Of The Leading Causes Of Type-2 Diabetes
As mentioned before, fast food often contains high amounts of unhealthy cholesterol and fats, and is low in nutrition. In fact, fast food products contain high amounts of calories, low amounts of fibre and the infamous MSG, also known as monosodium glutamate. It is because of these reasons that fast food and obesity are very closely linked. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that most fast food products are addictive in nature, which is mostly because they are incredibly convenient and affordable for what they offer. Right, so how does this cause Type-2 Diabetes then? To begin, we must understand that Type-2 Diabetes is caused by decreased sensitivity to insulin, which is an essential hormone responsible for the regulation of blood glucose concentration. Since fast food products are high in calories, consumption of it will result in high blood glucose levels, which in turn results in a sudden spike of insulin to keep it under control. Those who are overweight tend to have a higher resistance to insulin, thus increasing their vulnerability to Type-2 Diabetes.
#3: Fast Food Affects Cognitive Function And Memory
Fast food products contain a high amount of saturated fats, which is already a cause of heart failure. Firstly, the consumption of saturated fats decreases neurogenesis, which refers to the production of neurones. In fact, the impairment of neurone production might be a cause of dementia and depression. Additionally, increased consumption of saturated fats decreases memory and cognitive function.
It’s fine to consume fast food once in a while, but as with all things in life, it must be done in moderation. Overconsumption of fast food products can have detrimental effects for your health and even lead to death. As they say, without health, there can be no wealth. So, let us learn to pay more attention to our diets and care for our bodies, which are extremely fragile despite of their complexity.

For instance, classical music has been shown to stimulate the mind and improve sleep quality. I personally listen to classical and orchestral music whenever I read or complete a task. You might say, “Hey! Classical music is boring and old! How could I possibly enjoy it?” While it is true that classical music might be considered old, they are gems of the past and are worth listening to. This article will show you why. Studies have shown that listening to classical music helps to improve sleep. It helps to relax the mind and remove anxiety, thereby making sleeping easier. It helps to distract you from your thoughts and relaxes your muscles, getting you in the mood to sleep. Stress has been shown to kill brain cells and reduce their ability to function properly. On the other hand, listening to classical music has been shown to enhance memory retrieval and helps to trigger and strengthen neural pathways, thereby strengthening synapses between the respective neurones.

There is a reason to why classical music was able to stand the test of time. Some of the greatest classics still continue to be played and enjoyed by many. In fact, many of these pieces are used as background music in movies and musicians of all kinds are required to study them, with good reason.

For musicians, the classical period is an essential part of musical history that has helped to shape our overall understanding of music and its associated cultures. Why Parents Force Their Children To Learn Music
There are many reasons as to why parents force their children to learn music. Some of them include better intelligence and creativity. Or it could just be because “It’s a nice skill to learn!”, as most parents proclaim. Indeed, there are many benefits learning music can bring, such as better hearing, coordination and dexterity. Research has shown that music enhances cognitive development in children and builds new neural connections, thereby improving brain structure. Furthermore, it enhances memory and concentration. But is it worth it?
Why It Doesn’t Work
Sure, there are many ways that learning music can benefit your child. However, it is all useless if your child is not happy learning it. All of us have our own strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. One child might enjoy playing the piano while another might find it torturous. Naturally, your child might resent you and all that he/she has learnt. Without the necessary motivation, your child will not benefit from learning music. Rather, more damage is done. The key is to find out what your child likes to do, be it drawing, cooking or playing the violin. Only when your child loves what he/she does, can he/she have the potential to be the best at it.
The answer to this question is a resounding no. While learning music has many benefits, everyone should have the freedom to decide whether or not they want to do so. It should not be imposed on everyone. This applies to any other skill and choices in life. A person’s happiness is more important than the skills he/she possesses.
