Mathematics Is More Important Than You Think

Most of us have ended up hating Mathematics in high school. It’s probably because Trigonometry and Calculus got on our nerves, or because some equations were just plain annoying. In the end, we might have told ourselves that Mathematics is nothing more than a torture device. But what if I told you that Mathematics has a greater purpose? In this article, we shall discuss the importance of Mathematics and why it is of paramount importance to the world. Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter (enter your email in the newsletter registration section of my homepage). Without further ado, let’s begin the discussion.

#1: Mathematics Is The Foundation Of The Sciences

Photo by Artem Podrez on Pexels.com

There is a reason as to why you learn Mathematics before you learn Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Mathematics serves as the foundation for the sciences and helps to build up basic problem thinking skills, before you start tackling harder problems. For example, without a good understanding of ratio, you would not be able to understand the basic workings of stoichiometry in Chemistry. Furthermore, without the ability to solve equations and understand graphs, you would not be able to apply Newton’s Laws of Motion and the principles of kinematics.

#2: Mathematics Helps Us To Better Understand The World

The universe is ours to explore, but without the right tools, it is simply impossible. Mathematics helps to make sense of the world around and create new inventions. As mentioned earlier, it is the backbone of Engineering, Physics, Biology, Astronomy and many other sciences. With an understanding of Mathematics, we will be able to build complex machinery, spacecraft and satellites which will help us to explore the universe. Even the computer you are using right now is a creation of Mathematics. Let us take Isaac Newton for an example. To express his discoveries, he had to make use of equations and even invent a whole new branch of Mathematics, Calculus. Mathematics is the common language for all people on Earth, thereby uniting the human race in the common effort for further discoveries and the exploration of our universe.

Conclusion

So this wraps up my 4th article for the week. I decided to touch on the topic of Mathematics in this article, as I frequently notice that many of my friends dislike Mathematics for its complexity and tediousness. Mathematics, of course, can be complex and tedious at times. However, it has so many uses and its benefits for the human race are simply astronomical. I hope that this article, albeit quite short, convinces you of the importance and usefulness of Mathematics, and I hope that this will spur you to enjoy it. Here’s Why You Should Listen To Classical Music

So, many of you might have noticed that is the 3rd post for this week. You might ask, “What? I thought you said that you would be only blogging once every two weeks or sometimes maybe once a week?” (check out my blogging plans for 2021 at https://bestofwrite.com/2020/12/28/my-blogging-plan-for-2021/) Well, I figured that since I have some free time, why not blog? After all, it’s my passion!

Right, so let’s focus on the subject matter at hand. For this post, let us discuss the reasons as to why you should try listening to classical music. For instance, classical music has been shown to stimulate the mind and improve sleep quality. I personally listen to classical and orchestral music whenever I read or complete a task. You might say, “Hey! Classical music is boring and old! How could I possibly enjoy it?” While it is true that classical music might be considered old, they are gems of the past and are worth listening to. This article will show you why. Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter. (Do fill in your email in the newsletter registration section of the website) Without further ado, let’s begin.

#1: It Improves Sleep

Photo by Ketut Subiyanto on Pexels.com

Studies have shown that listening to classical music helps to improve sleep. It helps to relax the mind and remove anxiety, thereby making sleeping easier. Research has shown that listening to classical music reduces nervous system activity, decreases anxiety and blood pressure. It helps to distract you from your thoughts and relaxes your muscles, getting you in the mood to sleep. This effect is corroborated and confirmed by the fact that children of all ages, including infants and school-going children, sleep better after listening to relaxing, classical music. Below is a list containing some of the best pieces of relaxing classical music to help you sleep.

  • Claire de Lune by Claude Debussy
  • Spiegel im Spiegel by Arvo Pärt
  • Gymnopédie No.1 by Erik Satie
  • Nocturne No.2, Op.9 by Chopin
  • Moonlight Sonata, 1st movement by Beethoven

#2: It Improves Memory

As mentioned above, the relaxing effect of classical music not only helps to improve sleep, but also improves memory. Have you ever wondered why it is so difficult to memorise or learn something when you feel stressed? You’re not alone. Anxiety makes memory formation and retrieval more difficult, and stress has been shown to be one of the prominent causes of neurone death. Yes, you saw it correctly. Stress has been shown to kill brain cells and reduce their ability to function properly. On the other hand, listening to classical music has been shown to enhance memory retrieval and helps to trigger and strengthen neural pathways, thereby strengthening synapses between the respective neurones.

#3: They Are Precious Relics Of History

Photo by Fillipe Gomes on Pexels.com

There is a reason to why classical music was able to stand the test of time. Some of the greatest classics still continue to be played and enjoyed by many. The classical period has produced some of the most legendary pieces of all time, which never fail to captivate audiences and listeners of every age. In fact, many of these pieces are used as background music in movies and musicians of all kinds are required to study them, with good reason.

Conclusion

Classical music still plays an important role in the evolution of culture and heritage. For many, it has become an integral part of their lives, something they can’t live without. For musicians, the classical period is an essential part of musical history that has helped to shape our overall understanding of music and its associated cultures. This is exactly why classical music is something you and I should listen to. If you did enjoy this post, do consider giving it a like! Do follow me and subscribe my newsletter if you haven’t done so. Never Give Up Easily

All of us have been, from time to time, tempted to throw in the towel. At times, your mind tells you that your persistence and efforts are futile. However, it is exactly because of this that many men fail in their pursuit of success. In this article, we shall discuss why you should never give up easily and how you can reach success, day by day. Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter! Without further ado, let’s begin.

The Key to Success

Photo by PhotoMIX Company on Pexels.com

The key to success is unyielding persistence. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Likewise, success doesn’t just come overnight. Instead, it is the product of years, or even decades of hard work. We can see this even in nature. Planets take years to form, while our brain requires time to consolidate short term memory into long term memory. The moral of the story is this: Nothing comes immediately, and certainly not success!

“I haven’t failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Thomas Edison

With that in mind, let us understand that we must approach success one step at a time, day by day. This leads to my next point, and that is consistency. In our pursuit of success, we might not be able to see results immediately and this can be quite frustrating for many. Patience, consistency and delayed gratification are, in fact, very closely linked and they are the keys to success. Consider someone who is trying to develop the habit of reading. After 30 days of daily reading, he/she might complain that he/she finds the habit hard to maintain and might struggle to stay motivated. However, perhaps after a year, he/she, after consistent daily reading, would have gotten used to the habit of reading and would find it effortless.

Source: https://www.studypug.com/algebra-help/find-an-exponential-function-given-its-graph

Let us consider an exponential function as an analogy. The image above shows an example of such. Take a look at the graph at its beginning. Initially, the graph has a very low gradient and it doesn’t look like it’s going to increase much. However, as the x-values increase, the graph gradually becomes steeper and its gradient gradually becomes higher. This applies to life as well. Initially, we might feel like nothing is gained and that we’re not moving in any direction. However, with time, success becomes nearer and more attainable.

Consistency

Of course, to move towards success, we have to consistently move towards it each day. Conducting a habit of reading or writing everyday, for example, ensures that your writing skills are improving every single day, albeit slowly at first. This might sound daunting, but this is what delayed gratification is all about – trusting the process. Worry about success later, just do what you can do everyday, consistently. Whenever you feel like giving up, remember that failure and struggles are part and parcel of the journey to success. Strive for excellence and be consistent, and success will follow.

“Pursue excellence, and success will follow, pants down.”

Rancho in 3 Idiots

Conclusion

So this wraps up my short post for today. I got inspired by the hit Bollywood movie 3 Idiots and decided to discuss the importance of persistence. As long as you love what you do, never give up on it. Too many people give up too fast and wash all their effort down the drain. Never allow yourself to falter easily and forge forwards. The hardest roads in life often lead to the most beautiful destinations. If you did enjoy this post, do consider giving it a like! Follow me and subscribe to the newsletter if you haven’t done so! Here’s Why You Should Blog

To blog or not to blog, that is the question. Blogging is almost as old as the internet itself, but have you ever wondered why we bloggers do what we do? Some might envision and imagine blogging to be a mere habit, but it is more than that. In fact, some of us might say it is a way of life! Not only does blogging allow you to voice your ideas, it also allows you to learn more about the world! In this article, I will discuss the benefits blogging as for you and why you should try it out for yourself! Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter! Without further ado, let’s hop right in!

#1: Blogging Allows You to Voice Your Opinions

Do you ever feel the need to share with others what you know? If you do, then blogging is for you! Blogs are where people from different countries, different races and different walks of life come together to discuss a chosen topic together! Here, you will be able to explore different perspectives of your chosen topic. This makes blogging a great learning experience for you and your readers alike.

#2: Blogging Allows You To Learn More About The World

Photo by olia danilevich on Pexels.com

As mentioned in point 1, blogging is a great way to learn about others’ perspectives and different point of views regarding a certain matter. In fact, in the draft process of blogging, many of us are required to read up and research on our selective topic. And of course, we are required to process this information and communicate it effectively in words, pictures or sometimes videos. In fact, I think that blogging promotes the joy of learning, while at the same time cultivating the habits of reading and writing, which we don’t do quite often anymore once we leave school. This helps to enhance thinking, reading and writing skills, while allowing you to express your creativity in any way you like! If you would like to learn more about the benefits of reading, do visit my article at https://bestofwrite.com/2020/12/01/why-you-should-read/.

#3: You Can Make Money Doing It!

Firstly, I would like to emphasise that this point is not as important as the previous 2. This is because blogging can be frustrating at times, and if money is your only motivation, I can assure you that you would have failed before you even started. This is simply because, as with all things in life, true success comes when you do what you love. Therefore, if you find that you do not enjoy blogging, don’t blog, as doing what you don’t like will not generate you any positive results. So, let us begin this point with this understanding in mind.

Many of us reduce blogging to a mere hobby which is unable of generating any long term profits. However, this isn’t true! Blogging is like painting on an empty canvas; the possibilities are endless! It is up to you to be creative, the way you like it. For example, you could offer your audience the option to subscribe to your paid newsletter, which provides weekly reads of your written stories and narratives. Not sure what to do? Fret not! All you have to do is blog first and worry about the money later. Yes, I’m not kidding. As you consistently blog and garner an audience, you will start to earn money from ad-revenue and perhaps even paid collaborations with other fellow bloggers! Of course, you could also earn money from the good, old fashioned donations.

Conclusion

As a fellow blogger myself, I have enjoyed my blogging journey very much. Along the way, I was able to pick up bits and pieces of knowledge, connect with my audience and perhaps also improve my writing skills. This post is for anyone who feels the passion for sharing, learning and connecting with others. If you did enjoy this article, do consider giving it a like! Will Money Make You Happy?

This is a controversial question pondered by many. Indeed, money can buy you lots of stuff and grant you a better life. But is it the key to happiness? It is the desire of all men to be happy and many aim to be rich. However, money can also blind you, destroy you and take everything you love away. So, is there a definite answer? In this article, we shall discuss this topic in detail and analyse whether money is the definite answer to happiness. Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter! Your support is greatly appreciated. Without further ado, let’s begin right away.

Yes, Money Can Give You Happiness To A Certain Degree

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com

As mentioned earlier, money is able to grant you a better life. It can be used to buy food, luxuries and many other items that you desire. Money takes care of our basic needs and ensures our survival. It gives you freedom to control your life, do what you love to do and help others as well. For example, saving up money ensures that your current/future children will not have to worry about their education. I think we can all agree on this point.

However, There’s A Catch

Source: https://www.financemagnates.com/forex/bloggers/greed-vs-generosity-which-gives-a-better-competitive-advantage/

Money is indeed useful and important in our lives. However, obsession with money can end up destroying you. Many people yearn to be rich and often, quickly. As a result, they are willing to do almost anything just to get more money in their pockets. For example, some might end up becoming addicted to gambling while others might engage in illegal activities. On the other hand, many become obsessed with the power of money and what it can do. In fact, many end up spending a large portion of their money on unneeded and frivolous luxuries. Consequently, they are most likely to end up in debt and poverty. But this doesn’t stop here. Not only does the greed of money affect your financial decisions, but it also changes your character and how you interact with others. It creates selfish men and/or women who will stop at nothing to gain more power and money, even if it is at the expense of their loved ones. Still unconvinced? Mr. Krabs from the famous Spongebob Squarepants cartoon show is a great example of how money can influence men and is the personification of greed itself.

Conclusion

This has been a short post so far, but the main point I would like to bring across is that, as with all things in life, everything must be done in moderation. Sure, money is important, but we shouldn’t be overly obsessed with it. We must learn to be content with what we have and to place God, our families, our loved ones and human life above the material things of the world. The greed and obsession of money has destroyed many men in history, so don’t let yourself become the next person on the list. The Horrible Consequences of War

Nations are brought to war by their leaders for numerous reasons. These include social and economic inequalities, politics or just sheer greed. But is it all worth it? As humans on this Earth, we have seen our fair share of tragedies and disasters, but nothing compares to the tragedy of war. The sad reality is that wars are constantly fought. After every war, many nations only seek to prepare for the next. Peace is just reduced to the mere interlude between one war and the next. You would think that, being the most intelligent animal species on Earth, human beings would be able to cooperate in peace, but that is almost never the case. This article will show you exactly why wars should never be fought and why peace is so important. Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter! #1: Innocent People Are Made to Suffer

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auschwitz_concentration_camp

Many men and women, many of which unwilling participants, risk and lose their lives on the battlefield. On the other hand, many civilians are sent to concentration camps to be brutally tortured and executed, sometimes just for the fun of it. In fact, war crimes come naturally with any war, as parties on both sides hate each other. The image above shows the infamous Auschwitz death camp which was a place of suffering for many captured Jews during World War 2. On last estimate, more than 1.1 million people were killed there.

#2: Property is Destroyed

In the process of any war, property is destroyed. Towns and houses are obliterated by artillery fire, and in more ancient times, the projectiles fired by trebuchets. Civilians may lose many if not all of their possessions during a war and are forced to evict their former hometowns. Livelihoods are destroyed and many lose their wealth, as many civilians search frantically for a new dwelling place, sometimes to no avail.

#3: Public Panic and Fear

Source: https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-ptsd-in-canada

Death comes with any war. And with death, comes public fear and panic. During a war, civilians may lose their possessions and loved ones. Furthermore, they live in fear that they might be attacked anytime at an unknown time and location. As a result, many people develop eating and stress disorders, as they struggle with trauma. In fact, many World War 2 survivors still carry them to this day.

Conclusion

Human lives are too precious to be lost to petty feuds and arguments. If only nations will learn to bury the hatchet and work together, the world would be a much better place. Let us remember that wars harm the parties on both sides and that innocent people are the ones who bear the brunt of the war. Rich People: Expectations vs Reality

How many of you dream to be rich? What does being rich mean to you? Do you imagine yourself with Gucci bags, with jewellery and with a grand-looking house? If you do, then you are mistaken. In fact, rich people are more frugal than you think! Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter. Without further ado, let’s hop right in!

Expectation #1: They Spend Money Like It’s Nothing

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com

Many of us imagine the rich to spend their money like it’s nothing. We imagine them to spend on all the jewellery, properties and physical items they can get their hands on.

Reality #1: Most of the Rich Are Extremely Frugal!

Photo by Joslyn Pickens on Pexels.com

Here’s the truth. The rich use their money carefully and do not spend it on unnecessary items. Now you might ask, “That’s crazy! They have loads of money, but they don’t do anything with it?” Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Society and its forms of entertainment have brainwashed us into thinking the wealthy live extravagantly. In fact, when we are told to imagine a rich man/woman, we imagine him/her in expensive clothing, with luxurious cars and a dozen villas. However, this is not the practice of the wealthy. The wealthy know that the money spent on these luxuries could be used to start other businesses, invest and save. This multiplies their wealth even more! Of course, the wealthy pamper themselves once in while, however, they understand that those who spend money recklessly are those who will lose their fortunes.

Expectation #2: They Are Wealthy Because of Luck

Photo by Engin Akyurt on Pexels.com

The majority of us are led to believe that the wealthy either inherited their wealth or got lucky along the way. Many of us believe that the rich got their wealth from the lottery, gambling or being lucky in the stock market, while others believe that the only way to be rich is to inherit it from one’s parents or relatives.

Reality #2: They Are Wealthy Because They Work Hard

Photo by Mateusz Dach on Pexels.com

Yes, it is true that one can be wealthy because of his/her inheritance or being lucky in the stock market. However, without working hard and using their money carefully, these people will end up losing their wealth and sliding back into poverty. The rich, however, are the ones that are hardworking and persevere. In fact, many who were poor have become rich after years of hard work! One good example is blogging. Many people dismiss blogging as a mere hobby which is unable to generate real and reliable profits. However, there are those who have made their fortune through blogging! But how did they achieve this? These six or seven figure bloggers didn’t just get lucky. In fact, these are the bloggers who endured years of failure and constant learning before achieving their goals! To these people, failure is nothing but an interlude between two successes. You see, you can earn your fortune from just about anything – as long as it does not go against the law and is moral – if you are willing to sacrifice and persist.

Expectation #3: Rich People Are Lazy

Photo by Chris Goodwin on Pexels.com

It is common to imagine the rich as lazy people who spend every single day enjoying their luxuries and doing nothing else. Most of us believe the rich do not work and live worry-free lives. But is this wholly true?

Reality #3: The Rich Constantly Learn and Look For New Opportunities

Photo by olia danilevich on Pexels.com

Those who are truly wealthy know that lazing around will only result in losing one’s fortune. In fact, the rich understand that change is the only constant and that they have to embrace it. Those who grow arrogant and lazy are those who will fall behind in the race. Knowing this, they learn constantly to keep themselves up to date and look for new opportunities to expand their fortune. Evidently, many of the rich keep a reading habit! (If you would like to learn more about the benefits of reading, do visit https://bestofwrite.com/2020/12/01/why-you-should-read/) As a result, the wealthy are able to protect their fortune even when the unexpected might strike, for they are able to adapt regardless of the circumstances. These are the people who see the bigger picture.

Conclusion

Attaining, protecting and growing your wealth is a game of strategy. A strategist understands that he/she cannot afford to be lazy or reckless, for he/she would risk losing all that he/she has built. Secondly, being wealthy is a possibility for us all, regardless of our current financial situation. We are all blessed with a mind and it is up to us to use it appropriately and wisely. Thirdly, Rome was not built in a day, was it? Nothing comes for free and everything takes time, so don’t worry if you don’t see results yet.

Here’s Why Instant Noodles Are Bad For You

The invention of the instant noodle is one that has changed the world. Since its inception, it has been hailed by many for its convenience and simplicity of use. In fact, many of us consume them regularly whenever we feel lazy to order a take out or cook. But is it healthy? Is it something you should eat regularly? Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter! Let’s jump right in!

#1: MSG

Source: https://www.foodnavigator.com/Article/2017/07/12/EFSA-sets-safe-intake-level-for-MSG-and-glutamate-additives-urging-new-maximum-levels

MSG, also known as Monosodium Glutamate, is a common food additive in processed foods such as instant noodles. In fact, it has become so ubiquitous that it is used almost everywhere, from food seasoning to your miso soup. Studies regarding MSG have been controversial at best. However, a number of reports suggest that this infamous additive is able to trigger headaches, high blood pressure and other symptoms, while also promoting obesity.

#2: It’s Low In Calories, Fibres and Proteins

https://www.news-medical.net/health/How-Many-Calories-Should-You-Eat-Per-Day.aspx

You might notice that you wouldn’t feel full after a meal of instant noodles. This is mostly because of the fact that it is low in calories, fibres and proteins. Being low in calories, a meal of instant noodles would not be able to sustain you for as long as a normal meal would, while a lack in fibre content might increase the risk of digestive problems such as constipation.

#3: It Has High Sodium Content

Photo by Artem Beliaikin on Pexels.com

Instant noodles have high sodium content. In fact, a single serving of instant noodles contains almost 900 mg of sodium! Sodium has been linked to numerous health problems. In fact, it increases the risk of atherosclerosis, heart failure and kidney disease.

Here’s Why You Should Listen To Music

Listening to music is something many of us do to counteract boredom and for good reason. Many of us subscribe to Spotify and Deezer, while others listen to the radio. Indeed, music is an integral part of our lives. Many of us wouldn’t be able to live without it. But did you know that it has many benefits? This article will show you why you should listen to music. Before you continue reading, do follow me and subscribe to my newsletter! Without further ado, let’s hop right in!

#1: Music Brings Us To Other Worlds

You could be listening to Vivaldi, Beethoven or Taylor Swift. Music offers us a break from our hectic lifestyles and brings us to other worlds. As you listen to Vivaldi’s pieces, you might imagine and contemplate the beauty of the four seasons. Meanwhile, Richard Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries gives you the feeling of adventure and excitement. You could feel like Rambo eating that sandwich or Indiana Jones driving to work. I am unable to account for all genres of music, but you get what I mean.

#2: Music Boosts Memory

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio on Pexels.com

The brain is a muscle. Use it and it grows; leave it and it atrophies. Music stimulates many parts of the mind. Like reading, listening to music ensures that our minds are in top shape and running well. Improved memory also comes with reduced stress and anxiety, which we will touch in point #3.

#3: It Relieves Stress and Anxiety

Photo by Lisa Fotios on Pexels.com

Music shifts our attention away from our surroundings. Our feelings of stress and anxiety fades away as we listen to the music we love. For example, some intense orchestral tracks might make you feel like you’re saving the world. On the other hand, tracks with a slow tempo might help you to relax.

#4: Provides Concentration

Photo by Vlada Karpovich on Pexels.com

I think we can all agree that silence can be very grating and unbearable at times. We start to become distracted by just about everything in our surroundings. This is especially true when we feel unmotivated to complete our tasks or assignments. Slipping on a pair of headphones, however, solves this problem. The music you are listening to shuts out the world around you and focusing becomes much easier. Now Math homework feels like Mission Impossible. (Not because the Math is impossible, mind you, but rather because of the intensity of the movies)

Conclusion

Listening to music is part of being human. Our ancestors understood the value and significance of music as a form of communication, a form of enjoyment and a form of entertainment. What’s stopping us from doing the same? If this article was a good read, do consider giving it a like! Thanks for reading and stay tuned for my next post!
